Homa-Bay is a 42km2 on Lake Victoria, on the western Kenya, at about 75km from the equator. It is around 500km from Nairobi and the main way to get there is by buses and matatus to Homa-Bay. Otherwise one can travel by air up to Kisumu and from there to Homa-bay by buses. We also have home stay in Rusinga Island as well for any interested volunteer.
Since we are near to the equator, it is generally hot during the day (25-350C) and fresh by the night (12-200C)

What to do during the stay?
Arrangements will be made for you to do quite a variety of duties and services, working in community projects which will provide a totally new experience in life and we do hope you will find them quite exciting.

Community Based Tourism
The voluntourism initiatives are based on Nam Lolwe, the traditional name of Lake Victoria in Kenya which provides a unique and warmest experience of Community Based Tourism (CBT) involving amazing voluntourism experiences and opportunities of its own kind in Africa. The CBT involves people to people learning and living, meeting and interacting with Lakeside community inhabitants, where a visit would leave the voluntourist with unforgettable experiences in today’s globalised and digitized world. Typical African hospitality is amazing not found or affordable at all in the safari package tours, lodges and big hotels.
There are ample opportunities for hiking, boating, fishing, bird-watching, sun-set watching, mountaineering, picnicking, visit to the nearby Ruma National Park with some rare wildlife species including beautiful birds, visit also at some mythical and legendary Islands on Lake Victoria, hot springs on the main land and visit to Tom Mboya Mausoleum on Rusinga Island.
From 2 week to 3 months or more.
as soon you land on the Nairobi International Airport Jomo Kenyatta you will be given a tourist visa valid for 90 days (3months) at the cost of 50$ (Us dollars). If asked you should say you are a tourist, not that you are coming to work because for this activity the authorities normally require other and more complicated procedures, which for you is unnecessary.
